You have probably heard it said before, "You cannot get much done in life, if you only work on the days you feel good."
In life, we cannot afford to always go by feelings. We must not allow ourselves to become slaves to every plea of our bodies. This is where temperance and self-control come in action. Many are the times I have woken up in the morning and the only thought in mind is, "Really, do I have to get up this early and worse yet in these cold days of July?." But yes I had to get up and face the new day...HaHaHa ok....let me not strech it too much, I equally have my lazy days where all I want to do is rest or just be lazy. But those days have had their share of consequences. That one time that I chose to sleep in or snooze the alarm or just lazy around....yeah i faced the music, coming back to the realityof a pile of work that is incomplete. Well, it is true and wise to master ourselves and overcome those small whines and temptations. After all, self discipline is a choice. It is not the mountains we conquer, but ourselves.
Recently I attended a talk which made so much sense. Its like a light bulb just lit in me after hearing all that had been said. Mmmmhhh lets just say it was an Ahaaaaaaa moment or like we call it in the communication world "Click Whaar " moment. Here goes what was said, "A horse will always need a horse rider and the horse rider in turn cannot be without the horse. So just as the two go hand in hand, so is it with human beings when it comes to controlling our feelings. It does not matter what kind of feeling. It may be in regards to relationships or even to the small innocent feelings we get. The bottomline is that we are the horse riders and our feelings are the horse. the same way the horse rider must control the horse and keep it on track, so must we with our feelings, emotions and fears."
We must refuse to go by the notion of, I am doing A,B,C because I feel like it. Our actions and decisions must be guided by greater reasoning and not because we simply feel. Take control, be incharge!
